BLACK PEPPER
£ 1.70
Black pepper (Piper nigrum) is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae, cultivated for its fruit, known as a peppercorn, which is usually dried and used as a spice and seasoning. When fresh and fully mature, the fruit is about 5 mm (0.20 in) in diameter, dark red, and contains a single seed, like all drupes.
It is no surprise then that black pepper is known as the ‘king of the spices. ‘ Overall, the characteristic flavour of black peppercorns is spicy, woody, warm, terpy and herbaceous. Restaurant black pepper is a variety of pepper that is described as a coarser textured pepper than a traditional ground pepper. The Restaurant black pepper provides larger pieces of ground pepper in order to eliminate finer granules and pepper dust that may require more substance so that the flavor can be fully tasted.
